Bleeding disorders are rare, but often serious disorders. Hemophilia and von Willebrands disease are the most common bleeding disorders that prevent the blood from clotting properly. Internal bleeding, in the head, joints, or other internal organs are the most dangerous. People with bleeding disorders must continually be proactive in preventing bleeds. Many people treat prophylactically, which means they infuse the missing clotting factor directly into a vein to prevent bleeds. This is not only painful, but very costly. Hemophilia can cost over $250,000 a year, without any complications.
